ORENDA, (ex. COFFEE GRINDER), is at the same time both a work of art and a full-on sailing machine. She turns heads whether at the yacht club or at sea passing the rest of the fleet. She was Vic Carpenter’s personal yacht until the 1990’s when the present owner bought her and had the famed Bruckmann Yachts complete the interior in 2002. She is pure artistry and function above and below decks.

The hull is cold-molded carvel planked cedar with Honduras mahogany outer skin. The keelson is mahogany, the spars are laminated Sitka spruce, and the keel is stainless steel filled with lead. Below decks the cedar and holly floors, along with the mixture of ebony, mahogany, cedar and spruce structure, create a tasteful balance between light and dark.

Her builder, Vic Carpenter, was the pioneer of wood/epoxy boats. His staff included Jan Gougeon of West System Epoxy and Steve Van Dam of Van Dam Custom Boats. Cold molded construction has proven to be an excellent technique for one-off and semi-customs boats like ORENDA. They are dry, light and strong – Mark Bruckman who oversaw her 2002 refit called her the “stiffest boat in the yard”.

The care and investment by Vic Carpenter and the present owner is unmistakable. She has recently returned from a multi-month refit with local specialists. ORENDA is fully “ready to go”! For complete information on this boat, contact our broker John Maxwell by phone (207-359-2193) or by email (brokerage@brooklinboatyard.com).
