Will Sturdy
Chief Designer
Will Sturdy grew up on the Chesapeake Bay with a love for the water and wooden boats. Through high school, he worked on the crew of a square rigger, built a few wooden kayaks, and worked at a sail loft. During his first year at Webb Institute, Will interned at Brooklin Boat Yard where he helped on the carpentry crew building Sonny II.
After returning to school, he bought a boat and sailed back to Brooklin Boat Yard, where he has been working in the design office ever since.
Will cut his teeth on production engineering for projects such as Foggy, Toroa, and Sonny III and is now the chief designer at Brooklin Boat Yard. He continues to push the engineering capabilities of the design office in support of both in-house and outside designs. Will and his young family spend as much time as possible on the water racing sailboats and living aboard their old wooden boat during the summers.
Will raced aboard the Eggemoggin 47, Lynette, for seven years. This experience brought with it many long, upwind legs dreaming of possible improvements. Then, Will was given the opportunity to reimagine the ultimate 47 ft daysailer with the design of the E47+, Tink. Still in her first season, Tink has already proven herself on the racecourse racking up an impressive record of wins in the NYYC race week and other races around Newport.
