Meet the Maker Series

Trent Glisson, Carpenter

Trent Glisson hails from Deer Isle, Maine, just down the road. After graduating high school, he knew he wanted to be a wooden boatbuilder. He attended The Landing School, graduated, then “landed” at Brooklin Boat Yard. That was fourteen years ago.

“It’s great to work on different projects all the time. You never get bored,” says Trent who spends most of his time woodworking on custom builds and restorations.

Trent’s favorite build was a local double ender, Northern Rose. “She’s just a simple and beautiful boat.”

Trent’s Signature: “I’m the toe rail guy.”

Nick Carter, Chief Operations Officer

This month, we are introducing to you one of our leaders here at Brooklin Boat Yard, Nick Carter.

Nick Carter is the Chief Operations Officer of Brooklin Boat Yard.

Nick grew up in Seal Harbor, Maine, but moved to Gainesville, FL, in high school. His first job as an I.T. Support Agent prepared him for a career in information technology. He spent several years working for a tech start-up as the manager of I.T. systems before the company was bought by USA Today. At USA Today, Nick continued in the I.T. department and was largely focused on sports photography and video. He was able attend the Olympics, the Super Bowl, and the Final Four. “That was pretty exciting,” he says.

All the while, Nick knew he wanted to eventually move back to Maine, so in 2014, he and his wife made the move to Brooklin. They now live in Brooklin with their three children, and the whole family enjoys life on the water. Nick says fishing and sailing are hobbies the whole family enjoys regularly.

When Nick met with Brooklin Boat Yard about a possible position in management, he says the idea of leaving the corporate world behind was appealing. "Working for a small business is more rewarding,” says Nick.
